I have two desktop computers. I have Linksys router (WRT54GS) hard wired to
“MAIN†computer. This Linksys router is also hard wired to a D-link DSL
modem.
The “ALTERNATE†computer has Linksys wireless PCI card (WMP54GS).
Each computer has successful internet connectivity. That works.
The computers (with dedicated monitors) are sitting about 10 feet apart so I
can modify files on each very easily.
The printer is USB connected to MAIN computer. I have successfully set up
printer sharing and tested a print page using remote/ALTERNATE computer.
That works.
On the MAIN computer I can go to file manager and see and retrieve files
from the ALTERNATE computer. That works.
I can go to the CMD prompt on each computer and successfully “ping†the
other one. That works.
Here is where I am stuck. I cannot seem to navigate though the set-up
Wizard on the wireless ALTERNATE computer to recognize the MAIN computer on
the network for file sharing. Says access is denied even though all accounts
on the ALTERNATE computer are administrator accounts. I have a GUEST account
set up as well. The designated SHARED files on the ALTERNATE computer show
up, but no trace of the shared files on MAIN. I feel like I’ve tried every
possible option to get the wireless computer to establish file sharing
linkage with the MAIN computer.
Windows firewall is on and ZoneAlarm settings are shut off (low). All
share/connection functions work EXCEPT the scenario in the paragraph above.
Can anyone provide some assistance here? Thanks!
