On Automatic Updates

B

Brandon Taylor

Sometimes, I have to be away from my computer while it runs its Automatic
Updates. For this reason, I am wondering: Is there any way to set the
computer to automatically disconnect from the Internet and/or shut down
Windows when Automatic Updates are finished?

Only morons, and/or the totally effin' lazy rely on AutoUpdate. Most
intelligent users want to know what and when they are installing
updates, so if something goes wrong, and people have problems with
updates almost every month, they know what did it.

But be a lazy moron! That is your right!

There is no need to be abusive and insulting.

Hello Brandon,

The only way I can think of to get the connection to automatically
disconnect is to use the IE dialup settings.

Open IE -> Click on the Tools menu -> Click Internet Options -> Click the
Connections tab -> Highlight your dialup connection and then click the
Settings button -> Click on the Advanced Button -> On this window you can
customize the disconnection options.

You may have to experiment with the settings a little to get it right :)
Hope that helps.

I was just stating my opinion.

What's the matter? Are you one of those I consider to be lazy morons for
using AutoUpdate?

What would that prove other than the ability to hide my true feelings and
beliefs? I tell it like I see, and if you don't like it, please feel free
to add me to your blocked senders list. No one is forcing you to read my
posts, so take responsibility for your own actions, and runaway!

They probably are someone who feels that abusive verbiage and constantly
insulting a person is inherently wrong.

"Telling it like you see it" equates to nothing more than being an obnoxious
ass of late. While you have the right to speak you mind - be prepared to
hear other peoples opinions as well. While you vent about WPA, OEM
licensing and all the rest of the things that make you livid, remember that
in order to assist, you mustn't lose your audience.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
There are a few posters here whose ratio of helpfulness to abuse is very
low, and I block their messages. Kurt is not one of them, nor is David
Candy. Their technical expertise is invaluable, and anyone who does
something blatantly silly and cannot take the negative feedback (which
always comes with good advice) should ask their grandma for computer help
instead.
PS: Have you read Dr. Bombay lately? And they pay him to be like that.

LOL! Actually, AutoUpdate is another of the things of MS I think should
be gotten rid of. All it does is dumb down the update process and
enables computer illiteracy. So I'm just playing to another "audience."

LOL! And it's not necessary to be anal and prudish either, but I see
that hasn't stopped you! :)

Ever hear of the kids rhyme about "Sticks and Stones?" I would advise
you to take a look at it, especially if you are gonna continue to
subject yourself to reading posts on the USENET, where the flame is one
oldest traditions.

True - everyone gets an opinion - everyone get an a**hole as well but this
doesn't require them to show it to everyone they meet

Kurt, David and many others offer good advice in some instances, but when
they become abusive - they (meaning anyone who decides to deride someone for
their lack of knowledge and/or experience) have passed beyond giving help
and entered into disrespectful and obnoxious behavior which reduces the
value of their replies. Abusing someone for trying to learn is juvenile at
it's best.
PS: Have you read Dr. Bombay lately? And they pay him to be like that.
I hadn't read any prior to your post - after researching a bit - I wouldn't
read this diatribe any after. Should someone wish to pay for this type of
humiliating garbage - that is their decision, but it doesn't make it an
acceptable form of assistance in a public help forum. You want to search
out someone who intends to debase and humiliate their audience - your issue
not mine. Should this fool decide to lend *assistance* in a public forum
such as these NG's - then their behavior is just as reprehensible.

You started with Brandon and proceeded on to Curt - in this thread.
Nope - one way door for me - and very selective who gets that close. ;-)
I am. What makes you think I'm not.
You seem to feel that abusing or berating people is acceptable in 'hearing
their opinion' and listening to their views? Childish monologue at best.

"Playing" is the best descriptive I have heard yet. People come here to get
assistance (most anyway) - and they run into the insensitive and abusive
replies such as started this long thread - and instead of giving them any
help - you push them away. How childish is that???

LOL! I said to Brandon, "But be a lazy moron! That is your right!"

Not necessarily a direct insult, more of defining a choice for Brandon.

As for "Curt," I assume you mean Carl, I didn't insult him until he came
after me first, and I wrote it in a light-hearted jovial manner.

"LOL! And it's not necessary to be anal and prudish either, but I see

So it's a one way door in! ROFL!

That would be your erroneous judgement of me. Basically, I'm just
looking for a laugh, along with expressing my opinion. As with all
humor, some people just don't get it.

"Can't please everyone, so ya' got to please yourself. La la la!"

Don't really give a sh*t about how you perceive me. Life is too damned
short to go around with a stick up your ass being serious all the time.
Some times you just got to let down what hair you have left!

It's funny, but there was another very similar thread about AutoUpdate
that I responded to yesterday that I "played" straight.

I call 'em how I see 'em, and this one deserved some good ole USENET
flaming, and the other one didn't.
