Old question about Defender

I just recommended to someone that they try Windows Defender. One old
question I've forgotten the answer to. Do you have to have XP's Automatic
Updates enabled to receive automatic updates for Defender?

Hello History Fan,

Windows Defender uses AutoUpdate--so if your automatic updates are, in fact,
coming directly from a Microsoft server, Windows Defender updates should be
as well.

Suggest you set Automatic Updates to: Notify me but don't automatically
download or install them. . You can check/change these settings from the
Automatic Updates tab from the System control panel ªpplet

Also, you can updated manually going to the Signatures NG.

Let us know how it works ºut.
