Old games on xp

I've recently purchased some old classic games like theme hospital and dungen
keeper 2 for my laptop. It says on the boxes that it will work on windows xp
but when i try to install them it says '' c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The
system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and microsoft windows
applications. choose close to terminate the application". The header for the
window that contains this msg is 16 bit windows subsystem. In fact when i've
tried to run any ms-dos programs that are on the computer i'm getting the
same msg. Please help! It's driving me crazy!

Regards,
Brian

Find the autoexec.nt file that is in %windir%\repair\ and copy it to
%windir%\system32\ (%windir% is typically C:\Windows). Now see if you
can run the programs.
