OL2K Hangs When Exiting AFTER Mailbox is Accessed via OL2K3

Exchange 5.5 SP4 on Windows 2000 SP4

I have noticed that a few users (me included) have experienced the following
issue:

After accessing an Exchange 5.5 mailbox with OL2K3, OL2K will no longer exit
without hanging (Please wait While Microsoft Outlook exits.) This happens
every time on affected users regardless of Profile attributes (you can
create a new install of OL2K on a new install of an OS and it will still
hang when exiting).

Below is a capture of this process using FileMon:

Other users whom have the same OS do not experience this when OL2K is used
to access their mailbox.

Has anyone experienced this as well?

I understand that this could be do to the different free/busy
characteristics between the two clients. I have tried the /clearfreebusy
switch in OL2K and the problem still occurs.

Hello,

Thanks for your posting here.

What is the version of your Outlook 2003? Is it a Bata version?

I understand that you have tried the /cleanfreebusy switch, but, I would
like to suggest we perform the following step.

1. Close out of Outlook if it is running. Since Outlook will not close
completely in this situation, please end task on Outlook.exe and
mapisp32.exe in Task Manager.
2. Navigate to start, run, and then type outlook /cleanfreebusy
3. Click OK
4. Let Outlook run until it is successfully logged in.
5. Restart the computer.

Now open Outlook 2000 again. What is the result?

I am looking forward to your response.

Bob Qin

The version of the OL2K3 is 11.5608.5703.

I tried it and (surprisingly) OL2K closed. Was it the direct reboot that
some how was different then my other tests? Anyway, I'll pass on the info
to some of the others to see what their results are.

Thank you for the information.

Hello,

Thanks for your update and I am glad to hear that it works.

Sometimes, when you close Outlook 2000, the Outlook.exe and mapisp32.exe
continue to run.So we need to kill the Outlook.exe and mapisp32.exe
processes in Task Manager. Reboot computer will do this automatically.

We look forward to helping you in the future.

Have a nice day!
