OL2003 Can't Delete Message

N

I've got a new Dell Dimension in another office that seems
to be having troubles with OL2003 and deleting a certain
message. This has happened before (with a different
message) and when they try to delete this message in their
inbox, they only get an error stating it can't be deleted
(even after a restart).

They're a POP3 client with mail being stored in a PST on a
small LAN server. I've tried to perform a reinstall from
add/remove programs with no luck. I've also ran the
repair option under the help pulldown menu. I have not
tried a complete uninstall/reinstall or ran scanpst
against their PST file. I'm at another office building so
I don't want to tell them to do something like that unless
I'm there (don't trust the average computer user doing
those types of actions!).

Scanpst.exe is indeed a good step but a bit of a problem if you are in
another building ;-)

Let them empty their Deleted Items folder first.
Another thing that could help is to open the message-> Edit-> Edit
Messages-> type some spaces-> Save & Close-> try deleting it again.

The pst was scanned and it fixed the errors it found. We
still had a problem with messages getting stuck in the
Outbox (which was part of the original problem but I
thought they were telling me the inbox). I opened, added
spaces and text to three different messages and I could
then at least delete them.

When we went to send a new message though, it got stuck
again in the outbox. I tried to reinstall Office from
Add/Remove and it hung up on me - twice (gotta love those
OEM systems). I then went to Windows Update and found
about a dozen updates that I could install. That seemed
to have worked for now. I'll just assume a troubled
system file was overwritten and it's now happy time again
in DLL Heaven.

Thanks Roady!
