OK what games run poorly with ATI cards?

J

JLC

I'm a very happy new owner of a 9800Pro. This is my first ATI card, all my
other cards have been Nvidia. Since I'm coming from there camp, I've read
for years about ATI's crappy drivers and how badly some games run on them.
So now that I'm a ATI owner how about filling me in on what games are a
problem. I'm also running the newest ATI drivers. Thanks all, I can't
believe I waited this long to take the plunge:) JLC

None that I have found running the 3.7 drivers, although I think there
are a couple of flight sims that don't like the 3.7's.

So far only 1 game. It's called E-Racer, a kinda arcade racer, Runs very
very slow, but i think it's only games fault.

with any game I've thrown at it. Every game I have runs smooth with AA and AF

I knew you'd like the 9800 Pro. :)

I can honestly say that I have no complaints about the drivers for my 9800
Pro. All of the games I've thrown at it work great with the exception of
NHL Championship 2000 which I mentioned in another thread. However, as I
also said, that game runs fine on my PIII-933 box with a 9200SE and Windows
98SE using the same driver set. It could be that the game doesn't totally
like Windows XP that I have on my main computer. Currently I'm running the
Catalyst 4.1 drivers and haven't downloaded or tried out the 4.2's.

Enjoy the new card!

I've been brainwashed for a long time against ATI. I'm glad to know that
what I've been told is a load of BS. Thanks all for your input. JLC

No problems here, my 9500 Pro does everything I need to be done.

Graphic software..nice...
Games... all games I wish to play run very nice. Simcity seems to have
a slight dislike of ati...though that might just depend on the way it
uses memory.

You could try Omega drivers or go back to older official drivers to
see if you can get things to work properly. For some bizarre reason I
couldn't get 3DMark2001SE to run until two driver updates ago. I've no
idea why and it seems that no-one else had the same problem.

It must also be worth looking for a patch (I can now run "Theme Park"
on XP when it shouldn't) or search for others with the same problem.

I'm curious, about 3DMark2001 also. I can't get it to install on my '2000
OS. I get a message telling me I need DX 8 of higher. I have a 9800Pro
running the 4.2 drivers. I was just going to ask the group for help on this
because I sure would like to see the demo with all the eyecandy :) JLC

I'm a bit fuzzy on this, but I believe MadOnion/FutureMark released a patch
to address this issue. As I recall, you will get the error you speak of if
you have any version of DirectX 9 installed. Hope this helps.

To clarify, getting the patch should resolve the error message you're
getting.

Well that's not the fix. That patch is to bring build 300 up to 330. I dl'ed
ver 330. Bummer. JLC

Correction it did work. I'm really confused because on Futermarks site it
says that you do not need to patch build 330. Oh well it works! Thank
NightSky. JLC
