Ok to delete duplicates in Task Manager?

Adela

Hello, searching to catch the infamous "sysfader.exe" which is causing
problems when trying to shut off my puter, I found the following, and wonder
if deleting these duplicates rather than just disabling will help speed up
my puter? If so how can I delete them?:

In "TASK MANAGER", under "PROCESSES" I found the following duplicates:

IEXPLORE.EXE, 9 times, each with similar memory amount except one with
about double the amount.

EXPLORER.EXE, in addition to the above 9

TEATIMER.EXE, I was told I dont' need it.

I wish I knew which others I can delete, but cannot tell...Thanks a lot for
any help. Adela

if these processes appear when you start up your computer there is no
point in trying to delete the processes. they will start again then
next time you restart the computer.
IEXPORER.exe is internet explorer, it prob means that there are 9
internet windows running (in the background most likely) you can end
these processes.
Explorere.exe is an important process as it controls most of the
computer borwsing, do not end this one as you wont be able to acess
your files. Also to try and prevent this from happeing you might want
to go to Start> run and then msconfig and see if there are processes
which should not be starting up.

Teatimer is part of spybot Search and Destroy, it protects your registry
from malware changes, unless you have another program doing the same thing,
you DO need it. I use KIS and no longer use S&D

Thank you sgopus! Then I better leave the Teatimer alone. Does KIS do the
same as SpybothSD? Thanks again! Adela

Hi Samurai and thank you for explaining why I have so many of the same! I
can't imagine how all 9 or 10 IExplorers are open at the same time! So, if
I don't want some files to appear at startup, is it better to uncheck them
through the msconfig, instead of through Task Manager? Now that you opened
my eyes to the importance of leaving some files in Task Mgr alone, I won't
touch them, as computer headaches I have tons of! lol! Thanks again!

TeaTimer is part of SpyBot S&D. You should be able to disable that feature
within the SpyBot program..

Thanks Mike, I will try to disable TeaTimer from within spaybotsd, but, will
I be stopping any protection spybotsd may give through this program, as
sgopus explained? Thanks again. Adela

P.S. I'm sorry I got a little confused and called you "Samurai" instead of
"Mike" in my previous answer.)

Yes.

When I installed the latest version of KIS Kas internet security suite, I got
popups telling me I had to uninstall Spybot S&D as it was not compatable with
KIS, and actually there are parts of KIS that do the same thing that Teatimer
does, to protect the registry, firewall, internet vb protection, script
blocking, etc. I don't use their e-mail scanning, nor their office plug in,
slows things down way to much, I prefer to scan my e-mail manually before
downloading from the server, and I never download from someone I don't know,
nor has an attachment.

I too used to get several copies of iexplorer in the "processes", at
the same time finding internet connection had become slow. I am using
Win XP Pro SP3. Persisting with IE6 because of the adverse reports in
this forum about IE7, and IE8 is still beta. Google Toolbar Notifier
was another persistent "process". I uninstalled Google Toolbar (using
"Add or Remove Programs"), and have not had the nuisance since then.
Other processes that I think are unwanted are: (1) "Lavasoft Ad-Aware
Service", which starts every time one opens Ad-Aware; what I do is to
"stop" the service in services.msc. (2) "realsched", which can be
manally removed from Taskmanager; and (3) "Reader_sl" (associated with
Adobe Reader), which can also be removed from Taskmanager.
