Offline Folders

Chris

I have a user who had a mapped network drive that was made
available offline. The server that this person was
synchronizing with crashed. We replaced the server with
another server.
At this point the user is working with the files
offline and they are not being sychronized with a server.
Microsoft has a utility called the CSCCMD utility that I
attempted to use to move the data in the offline folder to
her new network folder on the new server.
The CSCCMD utility said that the task was completed
successfully, however the data was not moved to the new
network folder. To complicate the matter though, the data
was moved from the old mapping. It did not show up in the
offline folder. I could not locate the data anyware.
Please assist me in finding the data. Because of this,
I am missing three months of accounting data in the middle
of an audit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Csccmd /moveshare only updates the file names within the offline files
cache. It does not move the files from old share to the new share. It is
meant to be used after the data has been moved from one share to another,
and you wish to update the filenames in offline files cache on the client.
It is not meant for backup/restore purposes.

In your case the data does not exist on the new server. Since you did a
moveshare, the files now point o the new server, but if you do a
synchronize, offline files will think that it has some files in the cache
that no longer exist on the server. Basically, it will appear as if the
files were deleted on the server while the client was offline. Subsequent
synchronization will likely delete all the files that were not explicitly
modified while offline.

However, if you did not synchronize, then you can do the following.
Transition offline and you will be able to access all the files using their
new UNC name. Copy the files to a local location, synchronize, and copy the
files back to the network location.

Hope this helps.
