Office XP Outlook 2002 will not open

I recently experienced an internet winsock corruption problem and was unable
to connect to the internet until a Dell support person directed me to the
solution. After I got connected, most internet applications were ok; but I
have been unable to open Outlook. I get an error dialog box stating: "Outlook
requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. ....". I currently have
Outlook 6 installed.
I am tempted to go into the system registry and delete all the references to
outlook. Or, conversely, to uninstall Office XP and then re-install.
I have used my original CD's to re-install Office XP 2002, but to no avail.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Jim Cunningham

Upon searching the various thread messages I discovered the exact problem and
solution from Jan29, 2005 in this forum. Following the resolution in Article
ID: 287683, OL2002: Error Message: "Outlook Express 4.01 Required" When you
start Outlook; I discovereed that I have a higher version of IEexplorer than
my Office CD original and the recommended fix would not load.
Therefore, I am still unable to start Outlook, but at least know why!
