That information would have been very helpful to know in your original post.

Open Outlook in safe mode to see if the behaviour changes:

Start > Run > Outlook.exe /safe

If you start Outlook in safe mode, it disables all Add Ins. If Outlook works
as intended in safe mode, it's a good bet one of your Add Ins is the culprit.

Go into Add Ins and disable them all, then start Outlook normally. Add them
back one at a time, testing inbetween, to see which one causes the problem.

I also cannot open Outlook, tried to open in safe mode with no luck. I
get this message also "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot
open the Outlook window." Please help!

Hi,

I am following this thread to see if I can fix the same issue. No luck so
far. Also, I cannot get Outlook to open in either regualr or safe mode. Does
that suggest anothher issue/solution? Thank you!

WOW! Worked perfectly. THANK YOU!! and thanks for such a quick reply.

What does that suggest that the problem was? Is there something I could have
done to prevent it?

Something that's been occuring recently to lots of people. Off the top of my
head it was an update that caused it but I'd have to go have a look to make
sure. At least the solution is really easy!

I've also been getting this error. And have tried all of the above fixes.
Nothing has worked yet. Anymore suggestions?

Your version of Outlook, type of mail account, O/S, and any error messages
would help.

utlook 2007. Vista 64 bit. The error message is "Cannot start Microsoft
Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window." I'm not sure what you mean
by "type of mail account". Thank you!

Also, when I try the "Start > Run > outlook.exe /resetnavpane" I get error
message "Windows cannot find 'outlook.exe/resetnavpane'. Make sure you typed
the name correctly, and then try again."

Thank you. That worked. But...all of my email accounts are gone. And my
appointments in the calendar have lost the categories and I can't search my
calendar. Is that just a side effect?

No. It resets the navigation panes only. You may have another issue going
on.

Your email accounts are gone or your email is gone?
