Office 2007, WORD not loaded when clicking on .DOC but works with

P

PDU

Office 2007 installed elsewhere than C:\Program Files, when clicking on
"C:\MyStuff\Sample.doc", Windows does not know what program to use to open
this document. Selecting WINWORD.EXE from the installed Office 2007, nothing
happens, the Choose Program window just goes back to the Choose Program
display, WORD 2007 is not an option!! Office 2003 never had this problem,
quite an improvement!

Clicking on 'Start", 'Default Programs', 'Associate...', 'Set Associations',
browse to and selecting 'WINWORD.EXE' just returns to the "Open With" screen.

And if you scroll down to ".doc" and tell it to Open With ... Word, it
still doesn't work?

What if you leave the Start area entirely, right-click on the name of
the file you want to open, choose Open With ..., choose Word, and
check the box "Always open files with this extension with this
application" (or some such)?
