Office 2000 Standard & Windows XP

My old PC had Windows 98 and ZIP drive & Office 2000
Standard.
New PC is Windows XP still using Office 2000 Standard

Having moved ZIP files to new PC I find I cannot open a
lot of Word files.

File name is preceeded with a "Cycle" symbol followed by
a $ and the "Word" icon is at half colour density.

How can I gain access to these files.

Regards.

Those files are not Word documents, they are Word's temporary and lock
files. You can open them with Notepad if you want, but there is
probably nothing useful in them.
