OEM XP Home Crash on HP Pavillion 500

Bill

I have an HP Pavillion 500 that is no longer supported by
HP. The OS was installed in a separate partition on the
hard drive. The system will no longer boot and the HP
provided "soft format" completes but the XP reinstall
crashes. Is there any way to optain a replacement set of
XP CDs, HP does did not supply them with the PC? On-line
help for MS says to contact HP but HP essentially told me
to kiss off. I want to try a basic hard format and
reinstall. Perhaps the only alternative is to make it a
LINUX machine>

go for linux. ms won't support oem versions and if hp's support has run out
you are out of luck.

Another alternative would be to not buy an oem computer that limits your
options. Have a computer built with a retail install of xp that comes with a
real xp cd.
Now that you have oem, the only way to get xp cd's is to buy them. Just one
of the many downfalls of buying an oem computer(especially an hp or compaq).
Does the hp recovery cd have the option to format? Most do.

So are you the type that gets a flat tire and decides your vehicle is
no longer serviceable and must be replaced?

HP Pavilion computers have a hidden partition which contains the files necessary
to restore your PC to its original factory condition. Please read and follow these
instructions carefully:

Note: You must return your HP computer to the exact same hardware configuration
as it was originally. Disconnect all peripheral hardware devices except for the monitor,
keyboard and mouse.
