I am using message rules to exclude spams and need to edit one of the
phrases stored. I've tried the registry but nothing there. The words and
phrases must be stored somewhere obvious but where?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Try using the MS newsserver to access this and other MS newsgroups:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/resources.htm#setupmsnews No password, no
registration, and posts usually appear within minutes.
