OE steals focus from IE

When OE atomatically checks for new messages,
it steals the focus from IE. How can that
be prevented?

i don't think you can prevent this.

Internet Explorer has a focus bug, I don't remember how to reproduce
it, but it keeps focus, and you can never get it. i hope you did not
mean this.

My problem is that IE will *not* keep the focus when OE checks for
messages.

If I'm viewing an IE window while OE is open in the background,
I'd like to keep the IE window current, rather than get jerked
over to OE just because it's checking for new messages.

I'm running winXP (fully updated) and already have TweakUI set
(under General/Focus) to "Prevent Applications from Stealing Focus"
.... but it evidently has no effect on the behaviour as described.
IE cannot steal focus from OE -- instead it blinks on the taskbar
as it should -- but the reverse is happenening regularly, with OE
stealing focus from IE whenever OE checks for new mesages.

Hi,
TweakUI has the option to prevent other applications from stealing focus.
It
should work for this. It won't stop other IE windows from stealing focus
when they load.

Hi,
It means that, when there are several windows open, another window becomes
the active window. The window you were working with becomes inactive and
ends up behind another window.

Well, this seems pretty bizarre ...

Since I do normally have the Preview pane open, I thought
it would be worth disabling it first thing today, so I did.
But then it immediately occurred to me that I should
first open IE and put everything in a configuration that
definitely exhibits the problem, and *then* disable the
Preview pane -- a more-controlled test in other words.
But after re-enabling the Preview pane, I have not been
able to reproduce the problem!! Which is Pretty Strange
if you ask me.

All I can say is thanks for the ideas, and I'll try them
if & when the problem comes back!

I don't think it does normally.
So we need more information about your setup.
E.g. what all do you have OE doing in the background?
Are you running an anti-virus E-mail scanner?
