Odd undeletable empty folder on 2nd partition

D

drybones

The folder is empty yet I as administrator, am unable to delete in the safe
mode or
normal Win XP SP2 modes with only the D:\ drive open.

D:\34cae1902783ec06bc45fe0888

D:\ being the 2nd partition reserved only for games.

Was playing Lords of the Ring On-line some time ago. Could it be the
perpetrator?

How to delete?

Many thanks for your assist.

Bill,

Message:
Cannot delete update: Access is denied.

Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is currently
in use.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D: partition has 80.3 GB empty space.
The folder has 0 bytes in it.
Folder name is 34cae1902783eco6bc45fe08
opening the folder there is another folder named: update which has 0 bytes
in it.
Both folders are "read only" and I can not change this check mark.
Check your permissions on the folder. R-click > properties > Security.
Also, as I mentioned in my previous post, you might want to run chkdsk
on the drive.
It could also be that something is using the folder, however the fact that
you could not del it in safe mode moves away from that theory.
I had/have had the same problem.
See the information here for a fix:
Folders name with random characters appear after installing a Service Pack or
hotfix?
Bill,
There is 'no' security tab. Only General / Sharing / customize tabs.
Do not understand the required rules to utilize the chkdsk for a partition
on the same drive as the primary "C". I did use the start/run but chkdsk
only checked the Windows XP partition.
Many thanks Ron.
Restarted in Safe Mode once again and ~~
Had to muck about a bit with the folder "Update" located within the
D:\34cae1902783ec06bc45fe0888
folder but finally got the permissions fixed on both folders and DELETED the
darn thing.
Thanks again,
Had you checked the reference I gave you yesterday, you would have seen how to
make the security tab appear. You have to disable Simple File Sharing under
Folder Options - Advanced. But check the URL I posted yesterday for more
details.
You're most welcome.
Glad I saved someone some time. It took me forever to find the fix :))
