odd start up mode

jan

The pc keeps starting up in what appears to be a safe
mode. Plain blue window. Says its checking files but just
runs and runs. I have an initial 10 seconds to press any
key to cancel.
Next time I boot I shall write down the whole of the
thing long hand.
I have re-loaded xp and avg. Got rid of the Blaster virus
again. Run all sorts of house-keeping software and still
I get this boot problem
Thanks

To me it sounds like check disk (chkdsk) is running when you start the PC.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316506
Chkdsk Runs Each Time That You Start Your Computer

Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot

How to view the Chkdsk Log Entry:-
You will find the chkdsk log entry in the Application log of Event Viewer.
To access the Event Viewer
.. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools> Event Viewer > Application.
.. Look for the Event from the source "WinLogon".

Hi
All the error entries, with red crosses, say event system.
I upgraded to xp from me 2 weeks ago.
How do I stop the disc check starup?
In Scandisc I would have cancelled. Run Enditall and then
run Scandisc manually so that it could finish.

Thanks
