Occupancy chart

Hi and Happy New Year, all

I've got a database of patient admission & discharges from a ward, each
patient is one record, with a date-time entry for admission time and
another for discharge time.

I want a line chart of ward occupancy for each hour, over a study
period of three months - i.e. how many patients are in the ward on each
hour.

I tried to do one column with a date-time for each hour, and then refer
to those values in a COUNTIF function - but the COUNTIF can't take a
reference for the criteria. I don't feel like manually entering each
hour over three months - over 2,000 hours!

Any ideas for a work-around, or a different idea, gratefully accepted.

Using Excel 97 SR-2, Windows NT 4.0

TIA, Peter

Hi Peter!

It sounds like you want something similar to an ambulance usage
workbook that I assisted on a few days ago.

You need to input patient admission and discharge dates and times. In
your case the time spans are longer but the same principles will
apply.

Send me your e-mail address and I'll post a copy.
