Obtaining Updates

I have recently reformatted the HDD on my laptop and reinstalled Windows Vista Home Basic. All seems fine, but when I updated windows I got 54 updates. Most installed fine and some were not applicable, as I am not using Office 2007. But there are 17 applicable updates that failed to install. 12 of these show an error code of 80071A90. I can not fine anything from Microsoft about this code?
