If I buy an oem LG DVD writer, what will I have to do to get DVD-RAM and
other drivers for it? Thank you in advance for all replies.

You have to find someone willing to give you the DVD-RAM driver.

Does Windows XP Home have DVD-RAM drivers?

Hello, Daniel:

Yes, with the FAT32 file system.
I want the new LG GSA-4120BB. I can not find anyone who has a retail
version of this drive.

I just heard a TV commercial about an automobile that has a rear
entertainment system. I immediately wondered exactly how would an
automobile entertain one's rear and would it be safe to drive while
one's rear was being entertained.

My Panasonic SW-9571 came with drivers (including DVD-RAM), on CD-ROM.
That's not always true of every model of OEM "burner," however.

Good luck and happy hunting!

But not UDF? I think I have read that UDF is better. Is it better?

Hello, Daniel:

Microsoft Help and Support <http://support.microsoft.com> explains it, here:

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 283588 -
Windows XP Supports the DVD-RAM File Systems
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;283588>

Quoted, therefrom:

"The support technology for DVD-RAM uses the file allocation table32
(FAT32) file system for read/write operations and enables the use of
the Universal Disk Format (UDF) file system for read-only operations."

The following PDF document, at Dell <http://www.dell.com>, also mentions
this topic:

Windows XP-Sept. update.fm
<http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/vectors/2001_windowsxp.pdf>

A quote, from above:

"Windows XP does not support recording UDF-formatted information on a
DVD-RAM disc. UDF is the file system used in the DVD-Video specification."

Good luck, once again!
