Objects from pick lists only used once

I am creating a database in which there is a table of items and their weights.
as the weight needs to be calculated, the weight has to be used as the main
part of the pick list (A pick list which displays both fields, item number
and weight), however, I need some way to set it so that once the item is
picked, the same one cannot be used again...but...since some items can be the
same weight, I need it so weights can be duplicates.

I know it sounds confusing, and I'm really struggling.
Please help!
