NO video cards sold include on-board sound card circuitry. You need two
separate cards.

OK - It was just the all-in-wonder graphics cards have connectors with
"audio out" marked on them

Thanks fill. If I get it sorted I will certainly let you know. As it
stands I've put a new graphics card in. Looks like its ok UNTIL I play
video. The colours are messed up. Haven't tried a game yet - but I expect
it won't be pretty. Still no sound. I'm trying EVERYTHING. No problems
reported in device manager, no conflicts, all drivers reinstalled.
Everything appears fine but clearly isnt.
I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, I was using the latest
drivers from Nvidia, and it was causing all videos in all players to be
overbright, games etc worked fine though. if the drivers were the 77.72
version, try an earlier release.

I can't check to see what version I'm now using as the machine died
yesterday, but thats a different story....

cheers

My graphics card (and therefore sound too) has went died. Basically I don't
know much about them. What I need is one that can be used for playing
graphic intensive games (counter-strike type games) and for video-editing.
Also needs on-board sound. Any recommendations? Obviously the cheaper the
better - but what is an average price for this kind of kit?

Thanks in advance.

get yourself a radeon 9700 pro for about 45 quid new from aria (plus the
VAT). corking cards, stupidly cheap as they perceived as last year's model.

OK guys here is the latest: i swapped the graphics card for another one -
now working. I suspect the motherboard on-board sound was fried - stuck a
new soundcard in - Now i have sound. So basically I think the graphics card
and onboard sound on the mobo died from overheating. Im gonna have to get
new fans or something. THANKS to all who helped.

Heat is not going to cause the on-motherboard-sound to fail, before that
would happen, you'd have a meltdown of lots of other stuff on the
motherboard.

Except for older AMD CPUs heat rarely causes computer components to fail
(other than power supply components.)
I suggest you check the voltages from your power supply lest you have
continuing failures.
