It's official. As reported yesterday, nVidia launched their new graphics chip today, the NV30, which has been renamed to GeForce FX. I think it's a good idea they decided not to go with GeForce 5, but it does make it confusing for the consumer, what with the Ti, FX, MX, plus all the different numbers.

Volume shipments of the chip are expected by Q1 2003. According to this, it should be about 3x more performant than the current GeForce4s, and should one-up ATi for the performance crown. However, with ATi expected to make an announcement shortly on a revision to the 9700, who knows how it will turn out.

There are a few previews up, with [H]ardOCP's being the most in-depth, in my opinion. While you're at it, check out the massive heatsink and interesting proprietary cooling method. Rather interesting, but it takes up two slots at the back of your case!
