NTVDM-CPU performed illegal operation

Hi,

I bought a new HP Compaq EVO D330uMT P4ht/2.8GHz with 512MB and blah blah
blah. Moved all stuff from my old workstation to the new one. Did some tests
sucesfully on a DOS application that I need for administrative tasks and was
very satisfied.

Untill the moment I added the computer to my Win NT 4.0 domain. From that
moment on, the DOS application gives a black windows with a jumping cursor
over it. Nothing more. If I open a DOS Box (both starting as cmd.exe and
command.com) it reports "NTVDM-CPU has performed an illegal operation" and
some pointers.

Tried to reapply SP1a and hotfixes, replaced the command.com from another
non-domain computer (same type of EVO D330), tried many settings on the
shortcut that starts the application and the DOS environment config.nt and
autoexec.nt. But without any luck.

Perhaps this was due to malfunctioning hardware, cloned the HDD of the
second computer and also made this one a domain member. And guess what: same
problems!!!

Please advise. The only thing about NTVDM-CPU messages in the MS Knowledge
Base is about WinNT 4.0.

Jeroen.
