ntuser.dat in use

I've been using synctoy to backup the documents and settings folder on
my XP Pro pc. This app works great and can actually backup the folder
eventhough I'm logged in under an id.

If however, I just right click documents and settings and perform a
copy and try and paste it into another directory to back it up, I get
an ntuser.dat file is in use.

I'm just wondering why the app can back up this folder but copy/paste
of the same folder doesn't work.

The preference is to use just copy/paste to backup and not rely on any
additional tools.

Thank you

ntuser.dat is part of the registry. It is locked while you're logged
on. If you wish to restore it then you must reboot your machine
and log on as administrator. I am not familiar with SyncToy but
if it is a quality product then this requirement would be mentioned
in its help facility.
