NTFS corruption 9800 pro

M

RATS!
I got NTFS errors on all my hard drives after I installed a 9800pro.
The system log reported 'file systems unusable'.
The thing would hang up, reboot, chkdsk and corrupt all over the
place. I tried updating the VIA 4in1 but no help. Formatted, etc same
thing. Not overclocked. Replaced with old card no problems. What
causes this???
My system is AMD2400+ WinXP sp1a. Asus A7V266-c PC2100
Gotta go,

Change advanced memory settings (right click my
computer>properties>advanced>performance>[settings]>advanced - Memory
Usage) from system cache to programs.
Probably... similar thing happened to me.

Processor and memory are both on programs already. I believe that
these are defaults as I didn't change them.
Thanks for the hint anyway.

Try looking around for anywhere you might have tweaked anything to large
system cache. There's something with the Catalysts, the AGP, large NTFS
volumes, and large disk caches that cause these funky problems.
Or it could be something completely different.

Try installing the Omega 3.10 drivers instead of ATI

I'm probably wrong, but the first thing that jumped up in my mind is your PSU not handling the
extra requirements from the new card and browning the drives.

Thanks. I did a format and reinstall of WinXP SP1a and the problems
continued. I didn't tweak or overclock anything. I've heard that
corruption can occur if the PCI bus is too far out of spec but I build
this system all on 266ddr way back when and didn't mess with it. It
ran solid and works fine with my old card. GeForce2 GTS.

The PSU is 450w and I wasn't doing anything with the burner, DVD etc
when the corruption occurred. I even unplugged the USB devices. The
thought occurred to me also so I checked the PSU label.

Look in your Bios and turn of Bus mastering for a little bit or something
like that? A friend who I would call for you right now but cannot as it is
11.11 had the same problem. It is something to do with certain cache
settings and / or HDs.

The bios would be a logical following step seeing as your PSU is fine! Have
a play!

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and try again soon. I'm considering all my
options and looking for something concrete to solve this problem.
Meanwhile,,, the holidays are upon me and I must show hospitality.
Also, I have already gotten my RMA number if all else fails.

If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck.

Nothing to do with your problem but I would put the two HD's on the Primary
IDE slot and the DVD and CDRW on the Secondary IDE. I would never set it up
as you have it because the DVD and CDRW will slow down the HD. I'm pretty
sure this is correct but if anyone would like to insert their 2 cents in
here fell welcome to.

You are correct sir.
IDE primary: system drive>master, second drive>slave, IDE secondary:
CDRW>master, DVD slave.

You are wise Inglo. That's the way to do it. Wow, this is a weird problem.
I can't imagine what's causing his problem. Unless the card is really f'd
up and is sending all kinds of noise across the PCI bus completely
distorting the info being sent down the cables to the hard drives.

Will the card work properly in another PC? If not, send it back.

What 450watt PSU? Whats the max it can accually handle? Most
likely, its okay... but a defective unit can also cause problems.

Some 420watt PSUs are actually 180watters.
