NTbackup

i built a pc with 2 - 250GB drives setup in a raid 1. The OS is XP Pro Sp3. I
want to use this box as a backup server using NTBACKUP
There is only 1 partition on drive.

How can i setup ntbackup so that it will keep a weeks worth of backups and
only use a certain amount of space on the drive cause i have only 1 partition
and the os is on the same partition as where i want the backups to be. I dont
want NTbackup to fill the drive completely so i have problems. I want to
define a folder and tell ntbackup that its only allowed to use 200 gigs of
space and when it fills the space it will overwrite the first file it created
like a dvr for a camera system.

Is this possible?

NTBackup is / was never designed for this.

As others have already pointed out, ntbackup was not really designed
for this type of operation. However, you can always script around such
problems. Here is one method:
- You modify the backup script so that it creates a .bkf file with a name
of YYYY-MM-DD.bkf.
- Each time after the backup has finished, you check the size of the
folder where you store your backup files.
- If that size exceeds 200 MBytes then you delete the oldest .bkf file.

Post again if you intend to adopt this solution.

However, there is a more fundamental consideration. If you store
your .bkf files insde your machine then the usefulness of your
backup scheme is greatly reduced. The reason is simple: You may
lose the lot if the machine gets stolen, burns out, suffers electrical
damage or has its file system destroyed by some malfunction. Backup
media should be kept well away from the backed up machine
