ntbackup restores wrong "date modified"

When I restore from backup it seems that the "Date Modified" on folders
changes to the current time & date. The files' dates don't change.
What do I need to do to retain the folders' original "date modified"?

Thanx!

Not sure, because they were modified when you restored them, right?

No, I don't see how they were modified when I restored them. The way I see
it, the restored folders havn't been modified since they were backed up. So
I don't see why the "Date Modified" changes to the current date &
time...Especially considering that only the attribute on the folders seems
to be updated. The files w/in the folders still show the original "Date
Modified". What am I not understanding?

I'm not sure, but I suspect they were modified because you created them via
a restore from backup, and it sounds normal to me. What's driving your
question?

The folders aren't actually restored, they're created anew. The files
themselves are restored. It would be possible for a backup program to
save and restore folder attributes, but I don't know of one that does.

Here's exactly what's driving my question...They hired me to replace the
previous SysAdm a few months ago. The Pres of the Co. complained endlessly
about how, when the previous SysAdm moved files from an old server to a new
server, the "Date Modified" on all of the files was changed to what was then
the current date & time. She didn't know how to stop that. So, everytime
he browses the shares he's constantly reminded of her "incompetence". Also,
the staff here actually counts on the Date Modified being correct in order
to find files.

Anyway, so now the shoes on the other foot. Basically it's a political
thing. But politics is important.

So, what's the best way to move files and folders from one server to another
while retaining the same "Date Modified"?

Thanks!

That sounds bizarre to me, but hey, stranger things happen.

I don't know that you can. You *are* modifying the date - you're creating
new data files/folders - look what happens when you just copy a file &
subfolders from one place to another. Perhaps there's a command line utility
or something that will do it - robocopy doesn't look like it has any options
for this.

Thanks!

Hi/2

There should be better ways to identify files...

Yepp - alas it is

Hmmm:

I'm using "SpeedCommander" like (Norton Commander) that has an option
to keep Dates on copied directories

Then there are command like

- rsync (mine is cygwin) that has at least an option "preserve times"
(don't know whether it would work on Windows)

- unison like rsync has an option for keeping modified times (not
tested on Windows)

Thanks for the suggestions. Last night I tried the "12Ghosts" utility
"FileDate" which seems to have worked in a limited test envirnment.
