Ntbackup install

Hi!

After upgrading from Win98SE to Win2000Pro I notised, that the Back-up
Utility wasn't "installed" on the system, but there was the button for it on
the Disk Drive Tools.

When checking from the Add/Remove Programs Windows sub-page I didn't either
find any Utilities Program sub-group in there from which it could be
installed.

I found the Ntbackup.exe on Windows\System32 and opened it by a double-click
and run the backup routine.

But, now I'm interested in how to really "install" it into the system. I
know there is a routine for it in WinXPHome, but how about in Win2000?

There is no need to "install" ntbackup. It is a native part
of Win2000. Just run it via Start / Run or from a Command
Prompt.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply.

OK, but just for curiousity, what would be the routine to set it up into the
system as a real Utility, I have been seen it actually installed on many
Win2000 systems.

Hi!

Thanks DL for your reply.

Yes, OK found it also there.

But, a last interest question, how the Backup button on Disk Properties
Tools would got activated to start the Ntbackup.exe?

In Disk Properties/Tools just clicking on the Backup Btn should open the
NTBackup dialogue window

Hi!

Yes, I know, it should, but it doesn't ... so, what's the problem on it, and
how to cure it ...

The message I'll get on it is something like

"Title: Tools Message: Backup isn't installed. Please install it with
Add/Remove Programs, selecting Windows sub-page and follow the instructions"

but, I can't find there anything even close reminding this neither any
instructions to follow ...

I have to confess I dont use NTBackup, but a third party app.
I assume if you select Backup from start menu the dialogue opens?
I would perhaps try the system file checker, scannow, see help for syntax
Failing that perhaps a win repair installation
But others may have more relevent info

Hi!

Yes, it's working OK through the Start Accessories, but not through the Disk
Properties Tools Backup button ... just curious to know where the link, which
now is missing, is set ...

Best regards,
