I have a client using XPSP2. The system is part of a workgroup and we are
attempting to do a backup of some folders to another system in the workgroup.
I have configured a common administrative user name and password, and have
created a folder in which to store the backup. I am able to copy files to
that folder, so I do not have a permissions issue.
Whenever I attmpt to run a backup, the backup hangs at the point where the
window displays "Preparing to backup using shadow copy". There are no events
in the event log identifying an error or warning. Searching for an answer, I
found one in which registering a DLL file was the culprit (regsvr32
ole32.dll), but this did not help me.
One on of the systems where this is failing, the hard drive recently crashed
(thus precipitating the backup operation) and the OS was reinstalled.
All windows updates have been applied through normal windows update service.
We even tried doing the backup to an external USB drive (NTFS formatted) and
experienced the same results.
I am hoping that someone will know what I am overlooking and share that info
with me.
Thanks.
