NT5inf.cat

Just tried to upgrade a DELL XPS T700 from Win98 to
Win2k. After install almost complete. I get a window
saying that the NT5inf.cat file can not be found. It
then gives a window for you to search in a floppy drive
or cd drive. Although it never lets you search or browse
just wants you to type the path from the Win2k cd.
Seeing as how I cant search I wonder if anyone could tell
me a path in which to find this file I have never heard
of before. TKs

The file nt5inf.cat is archived into the i386 folder as nt5inf.ca_., on
/i386 on the CD.
Check if you can access this file on another computer.
Also type on the other computer on a command prompt
C:\>expand d:\i386\nt5inf.ca_ c:\anythingyouwant.cat
If it shows an error, it will prove my point, that the CD is scratched or
dirty.
If it is OK, may be your CD drive is faulty or it might be an issue with
those crazy installation CDs from DELL, that use strange drivers and
unorthodox methods to keep you with the same operating system.
You can try a clean installation, backing up your data before and
formatting, but I think you cannot avoid this file even doing so.
If there is an issue with the DELL drivers or BIOS, contact them.
