NT user DAT file?

I was looking thru the files of my PC & I noticed the NT user DAT files. It
has yester day as being the last day it was modified & I also see that what
was a few KB a few months ago is now at 4MB! I think it unlikely that 4Megs
of data in a file that started in the double digits KB is absolutely
essential to this PC's function. However, I freely admit I can be wrong.
I like to have as much disk space as possible, I'm funny that way.
So does ths file really need to be that full, if not what is the proceedure
to take it back to the level it really needs to be?

My NTUSER.DAT is 9.25 MB. And mine is optimized.

I would suggest that you leave any NTUSER.DAT files alone. NTUSER.DAT files
are absolutely essential.

NTUSER.DAT files are the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive for the registry.

One NTUSER.DAT for each user on the machine, some templates and repair.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\NTUSER.DAT
C:\WINDOWS\repair
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\systemprofile

If you want to optimize your registry, use NTREGOPT.

Mr. Vogel thank you for your quick reply. A further question if I may, Would
it be in my best interests to download NTREGOPT & ERUNT as a matter of course
for use in the future?

robert,

Mr. Vogel is my Dad and he knows less about computers than I do. ;-)

Yes.

I use ERUNT instead of System Restore. ERUNT has saved my bacon a time or
two. I use NTREGOPT just because.
