Hi Shawnews,

How are you launching Notepad?
And what's the error message shown when starting Notepad?

Click Start, Run and type "%windir%\notepad.exe" and press ENTER

Does Notepad open correctly?

Notepad, under XP Home SP2, keeps trying to find a non existent file
whenever I load it. I've tried numerous strategies to get rid of it so it
loads a simple blank page. I suspect I have to rewrite some entry in the
registry but I'll be blessed (not likely) if I can find out what. Has anyone
any insights?

Does this happen whatever way you start Notepad (from the Start Menu,
from a shortcut, by double-clicking on a file)? Or is it when you start
one way in particular?

Yes it does. I access the notepad entry off my most frequent documents list
right below the area where I "pin" programs.
