Not sure how to accomplish this:

I had this in the new users area, but got no response.. anyone here tha
can help with this?

I am working a temporary job and trying to create an EASY to use for
for tracking training employees.

I have a LARGE list of classes. I have looked at handling this severa
ways: 1) Straightforward drop down list of all classes - Problem: Th
list is very large and the names are so long (with several variants o
each class - ie: internet class, classroom, or self paced training) an
the drop down box (which doesn't word wrap that i have seen) would hav
to be a full sheet wide just to see the entire course name. 2) A Use
Form which would accomodate a box that would be more adjustable to fi
the size of the list. Problem: I don't understand how to make this wor
and even after having READ the book, the help sheet, and variou
internet sites, still can't quite make it work.

What I would ultimately like to be able to do is this:

If the Track is Telephony: I would like it to drop down a choice o
TEST or CLASS. If Test is chosen, it would go to a list of all th
tests under that track. If Class is chosen, it would go to a list o
all the classes under that track. I could conceivable drop the TYPE o
class and leave it to another field.

There are about 15 different tracks with many choices under each. Thi
seems to be more manageable to the end user who is entering the data
but more of a headache for me to create. However, I like to do my bes
at anything even if it means getting in way over my head.

If there is ANYONE out there that has any ideas on how to make thi
work , I would GREATLY appreciate a little guidance.

Thank you

I believe this may very well work! Thank you thank you!

I will post back to let you know how it worked

Nooooooooo It won't work.. conceptually.. yes, but I HAVE to hav
multiple words. If this list were a bit simpler, it would be fine, bu
the detail that is contained in the course title can not be squished u
together into one word. :(

I may not be able to do this .. but I did learn about Dependant Lists
which is new to me.. so many thanks for that

I did read her entire site.. printed it out actually for futur
reference, but some of these course titles are 20 words when yo
include the course title, course code etc.

Great site.

As far as inserting _ between the words.. that just isn't going to loo
very "pretty" on the sheet.

Though I think this would be a handy tool for a sheet that was a bi
less "wordy", I don't see it working for this one.

Thanks to all for the input

I'm confused. You were talking about range names with spaces in them, right?

Deb's suggestion was to use:

=INDIRECT(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ",""))

And use the namewithoutspacesinit for the name. (and not many people look at
range names)

But maybe you could use the technique for illegal characters:
http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html#Illegal

to keep the length of the name shorter.

ok.. maybe *I* am the one who is confused.

My course names all have multiple words in the titles... Can I leav
my multiple word entries like they are?

Perhaps if you looked at what I am dealing with it would be better? I
you will PM me an addy I could send you a copy of the sheet.

I am not good at explaining things like this
