"Not Responding" ALL OVER PLACE

I just installed a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate, and I'm getting "Not
responding" all over the place. Whether am surfing the net (both IE & Opera),
or installing programs or just click around it seems I get not responding
which usually lasts for a full 1minute. During this span I can't do anything.
My harddrive & CPU are silent. Then all of sudden within 1 minute, everything
I tried to do get done in couple of secs. Usually after this I can click
around and do stuff for another 5-10 click before I have to wait again for 1
minute. The programs never crash! I just have to wait around for a full
minute.

It seems to be random, although anytime I open the windows installer (try to
install something) its a guarantee I have to wait for a full minute (again
nothing is being done, no cpu & harddrive activity during this silence). I've
tried to turn off aero, user account thingy, windows defender, all other
securities and no luck. Although since turning off Aero, its gotten slightly
better.

I've also downloaded latest drivers for my video card & audio card. Nothing
in device manager is yellow or red. Although I've tried to download NForce4
Ultra ( my controllers) and it won't let me install. It says "Setup detected
that the operating system in use is not windows xp x64 edition. This setup
program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on windows xp x64
eidtion. The installation will be terminated." I have Ultimate 32bit and IM
Sure the drivers are for 32bit. I've even tried to download the x64, and I
get different error.

When its running, its beautiful. Problem is every couple of minutes, I have
to wait for a full minute (going CRAZY!).

Here are my specs, PLEASE HELP!

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+
Geforce 6600 128meg
1gig ram
Nforce 4 Ultra Socket 939

I just heard that there are problems with NVIDIA drivers all over the place
with Vista. I am not sure if this is true but what you are describing sounds
like a driver issue. You did a clean install and typically Windows installs
will detect any hard drive issues so you would be safe to say you ruled that
out. Hang tight and see what they will do about the NVIDIA stuff. You should
also try to download the new forceware from the nvidia site and see if that
will fix your issue.
