not recognizing joystick

My system isn't recognizing my joystick. When I try to
add it in I get a message that says " Ypur gameport or
gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please
consult the device manager." Any ideas what I am
supposed to do to fix this? The device used to work and
my boy is very upset that his game doesn't work
anymore....

If the gameport is on a soundcard, reinstall your soundcard drivers. If
it's attached to the motherboard, look at the motherboard manufacturer's
website.

It's not the joystick that is the problem, it's the gameport controller.
