not good with computers

I have a new laptop and I really want to write a story. the only thing i can
type it on is my word pad. my wordpad doesn't tell me how many pages i using
or when that page ends. i just need something to help me set up as if i was
writing a report. a free download if you please. struggling college student.

Well the worldwide standard at this point is using Microsoft office's Word.
But if you have an internet connection (common with most colleges now), and
want to go free, check out www.writely.com, it does not have all of the
bells and whistles - but it should take care of the immediate needs.

Try Open Office at openoffice.org. It's free and supports a large number
of languages.
It will handle Microsoft documents without a problem.

It is a very good set of applications. 8 - )
