Not getting the password screen on a read only file to edit it.

When I goto open a word document it does not bring me to the screen to allow
me to enter the security password in order to edit it and just brings me to
the read-only copy.

Then it most likely isn't password protected at the file level. It must be
protected in some other way.

One possibility: Check for internal protection... In Word 2007 hit the
Developer tab of the Ribbon then click the Protect Document button. In prior
versions go to Tools> Protect Document (or it may just say Protection).

Thats the thing. Everyone else who tries to access it gets the prompt to
whether or not open as read only or put in the password to edit. I checked
protect document it is not selected.

I don't recall ever having seen that before. Do you get any prompt at all?

What version of Word are you using?

What is the file format of the document in question?

How was the password applied?

What happens of another user opens for editing, removes the password, closes
& saves, then opens & resets the password?

Can you furnish any additional details?

No I don't get a prompt and that is what I want to come up so that I can put
the password in to edit. Im using office 2003 it is a normal word document
I'm trying to open. When every other user goes to open it they are prompted
to enter the password if they would like to edit it or just view as read only.

Even had someone use my computer but on their own user name.
