Not getting DHCP address

D

Dan

I have XP on Compaq pc trying to connect with DHCP to SBS2000 server.
Network connection - TCP/IP is set to Obtain an IP address automatically, as
is DNS. Neither the Wired NIC or Wireless card obtains the correct address.

Right now I am testing with D-Link DWL-G630 which works correctly in my
other laptop. When plugged into this laptop I get an IP address of
169.254.65.92.

How do I correct this?

I am having this same problem. Cannot get rid of the 169.254.X.X. Has something to do with Automatic Addressing. Once I get that address, ipconfig /release does not work.

That address is the result of a problem on the network, not the cause
of the problem. That address wasn't assigned by DHCP, so it can't be
released by ipconfig.

Something is preventing your computer from communicating with a DHCP
server to get an IP address. Make sure that there's a DHCP server
(broadband router, ICS host computer, etc) on the network. If there
is, see this page for some possible solutions:
