not finding spyware

R. Aston

I have run System Check for Nopbook PC on Hp Total Care
on my HP Pavilion ze4900 Laptop computer and it found
syware on my laptop. I have Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1
installed and running on my laptop, but for some reason
it did not find this spyware. HP Total care did not tell
me which spyware was present, it just tells me there is
spyware. I am running Windows XP with SP2 installed.
Just wanted to let you know the beta is not finding all
spyware.

This build does not detect cookies and that is most likely what the other
detects.

This is from Steve Dotson

Spyware is a cat and mouse game. As soon as we fix one
problem, another one is sure to follow. If you have a new
piece of spyware, please help us create new signatures by
submitting a suspected spyware report. This is a very easy
task and allows us to make the product better with each
signature release.

Steps to take if you have spyware that is not removed by
Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (beta)
1) Open up AntiSpyware
2) Click Tools at the top
3) Click "Submit a Suspected Spyware Report"
4) Fill out the form with as much detail so we can analyze
quickly

By doing these steps before trying something new, you make
the product better.

Thanks again for testing the beta!!!!

Not only does this Beta not find some spyware (try spybot
search and destroy and adaware) the spyware it does find
is never removed. It says it is deleting registry entries
and program files but it is lying like a dirty old dog. I
have even gone in to the reistry and deleted all
occurances of SEP and supposedly had this beta remove it
and I keep getting a warning that it is trying to install.
I think this beta may be doing that itself. If Gates is
going to sell this one he is going to get a lot of
complaints.

Hi

Well, Bill is not going to sell this one (for licensed
users) but for
other reasons it can be really good to have a redundant
antispyware
program for manual scans (MS is commercial and MSN and
so......... ;) )

About MSAS I can only say that it is working great for me on
3 PC:s.

""At the RSA conference, Bill Gates announced the consumer
and enterprise strategy for Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware.
"The personal version of the final Windows AntiSpyware
software (will be) available at no additional charge to
licensed Windows customers as part of the Windows value
proposition. The offering will offer full functionality to
consumers, including the ability to detect and remove
spyware, continual protection that helps guard against more
than 50 ways that Web sites and programs can put spyware on
a PC, and protection against the latest threats through the
combined efforts of the SpyNetT community and Microsoft
researchers. For business customers, with more complex
infrastructure support, management and deployment needs,
Microsoft plans a managed anti-spyware solution that will be
available as part of a paid solution."

Try this for removal, all scans in *safe mode*

- Download/Install CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com

- Download/Install Lavasofts Adaware

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10319876.html?tag=list

* Also watch the video from Cnet about Adware within page
for best result.*

- Download Winsockfix, just a precaution if you loose your LSP.

- Restart in *safe mode*, press F8 during reboot

- Run CCcleaner and remove all temporarily junk.

- Run Adaware, fullscan

- Run MSAS, fullscan

- Restart
