Not enough resources to run new video card

I installed a Matrox G450MMS quad card on my Dell pc 3.06 Ghz, Gig of RAM.
The device manager says that the system can't find enough resources to run
hardware. I've spent three days with Dell and Matrox to no avail. They
suggest I reformat the hard drive and start over then XP PRO will handle the
resources. This is moronic. No one seems to know how to get Windows to free
up resources. I removed old card and its drivers. I even went into msconfig
and disabled everything in startup, but no help. I have another almost
identical PC with a fresh XP Home install and the card works perfectly, but I
need the card on my pc. Any thoughts?

What sort of resources, an IRQ assignment?. You might compare the
IRQ mapping tables between the two PCs. You can use MSInfo32
to capture that data. Also are both PCs ACPI compliant ?

No, its the I/O and Memory. I don't know what "ACPI compliant" is? They are
both Pentium 4 Dell's.

P-4's are ACPI compliant. If it's I/O Addressing and memory then
you may only get it to work by doing a Repair install. That should
purge out all the devices and do a full reassignment. Apparently, it
(Video) can get it's allocated resources on the one PC but not the
other. In older Operating Systems you could just uninstall the PCI
bus and it would re-enumerate all the devices, which I've never had
the nerve to try with XP. If you do try a Repair install, just be sure
to Image or backup personal data beforehand.

Will the repair interfere with any existing programs? I did go into device
manager and delete all the sound and system devices I could, then rebooted
and they reisatlled themselves, but it didn't resolve my problem.

A repair should retain programs & user settings. I can't say for sure
it will resolve your issue. Normally, XP does an excellent job of
assigning resources to hardware devices. If your other PC works
with the card installed then it must be possible to get a working
configuration.

The other PC has less RAM and a slighly slower processor, but otherwise
they're the same. I had just reformatted the drive and loaded XP, Norton and
MS Office PRO only before installing the video card, so I'm guessing very
little resources were being used. I'll check into doing a repair of my XP

Thanks for the help.

Matrox have been hitorically resource hogs tho....Not sure about the
newest cards however.
