Not booting correctly and then not responding

Can anyone help pls.

I've done all the scans I have (Ad-aware, Symantec, Spywareblaster), have
cleared all cookies and tif's, done PC clean up and defragged but my PC is
still not playing ball.

It won't boot up properly so I don't get all my icons on the desktop and it
won't respond to anything once it has booted - the only way to shut it down
is to manually press and hold the button for about 10 seconds.

I have to boot in safe mode to do anything at all with my PC.

Any clues?? All help greatly appreciated.

It's hard to say without some sort of error message or error code. To see
if there are any listed, while in safe mode go to Control
panel>administrative tools>event viewer. There will be three categories
there. Expand all three and jot down the events that are indicated with a
red error, the error code, event id etc.

Have done that and there are loads of errors. Most of them seem to be the
same thing over and over.

There is DCOM 10005 and Service Control Manager 7026 and 7001.

Does that make any sense??

Just for extra problems, my PC is in German so I've got to try and translate
and give you the info you want. Hope this is the right thing!!

Thanks for replying. I appreciate any help you can give me.

There, hopefully was more to the error messages than that. Those event ID's
can be kind of vague. It nay look like this...the entire message,
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7001
Date: 2004.04.19.
Time: 12:39:19
User: N/A
Computer: NIK
Description:
The IPSEC Services service depends on the IPSEC driver service which failed
to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

--or this--

Event Category: None
Event ID: 7026
Date: 2004.04.19.
Time: 12:39:19
User: N/A

Description:

Thanks but it looks like I'll either have to take it in to get it fixed or
get a new PC cos the other info you need is in German and I can't understand
it. Have tried transcribing it but it doesn't make sense to me at all.

Never mind. Thanks for your help anyway. It's much appreciated.
