Not accessing backed up data

Hi
My hard drive crashed and my computer is in the work shop so I plugged my
backed up drive into another machine to continue working. However I cannot
access all the folders on the backup. There is one under Documents and
settings that has all my work file that is not accessible.
How can I get access to thes files?
