Not 100% Access

Hello

my question is not 100% access but i think this is a good place to post my
question...

What's the best software to design entity/realtionship ? I have to create a
DB in Access but first have to design it in a EA model.

Anyone knows a good software free if possible

Thanks in advance and sorry for being a little off topic...

If you already have Access, is there a reason you don't want to use the
Relationships window in Access after creating your tables?

That's a way to record the Relationships, but it doesn't help to _design_
the data layout with relationships.

My suggestion to the original poster is to search at SourceForge.org and
other open source software sites, if he needs a free application for using
Entity-Relationship design methods to design his database. The "good ones"
that I've heard about are not open source and not free.

I create maps of the tables for others for a modest fee and have numerous
maps for people. For many I designed the table structure then created a
map and for others I created a map of their tables. If you would like my

Stevie, are you actually that clueless?

times in the past that his help is of questionable value and over priced
even when offered for free.

I may use paper/pencil to sketch out initial ideas, but find it fairly
simple (and cheap) to use the table design and relationship window in Access
to "design" ... probably a different definition...

Jeff,

I, too, create my own RDB design (using a data modeling system to create
something as clear and simple as relational tables and relationships seems
awfully like "training wheels" to me) and, like you, I then use something
else to document them -- Access itself, Visio, etc. But some users want the
comfort of starting with the basics and letting the modeling system put the
design/layout together for them, and document it, as well.

I have worked with DBAs who used "data modeling packages" to create the
structure for their databases, not because they had difficulty structuring
the data, but because the server databases which they were using required
triggers for functions that we can specify in properties in Access, and the
modeling tool wrote the SQL or T-SQL for those triggers. There are many data
modeling tools, but the most popular with the DBAs I knew was "ERWIN". It
was not free, and not inexpensive, either.

I've run across that one (and others, more ORM-related). Nope, they aren't
cheap ... but I am!
