Norton Personal Firewall

A few weeks ago I installed Norton's Personal Firewall on
my Dell. Things worked great until I installed the latest
Microsoft updates. Since then the Firewal doesn't
activate, it just disappears. So does my Norton Antivirus.
I am a total computer neophyte and I really don't want to
pay Symantec $30 a crack for support. Has anyone else
encountered this problem and figured it out?

Thanks

Nicole

Have you tried reinstalling the software ?? Might have
to delete it and then reinstall it...

I have heard that , just uninstalling it is not enough,
you must remove all traces from the registry, see their
site for details.
Personally I would dump nortons firewall and get zonealarm
much friendlier and better, also with the costs of
hardware
firewalls I also have one of those, with the mail in
rebates
the costs were $20 bucks for a dlink di 604

I've been trying to cancel the order and they can't even
get that straight. What I don't understand is why it
worked perfectly for 2 weeks then blamo? I'll check on
their site and see what you are talking about a registry.
Like I said, a computer is a black box for me. I just want
it to work, sort of like my car.

What's a dlink di 604?

Thanks

Nicole

To answer your question a d-link di 604 is a type of
hardware router/firewall made by d-link, these days it's
cost is very affordable, and very easy to install, just be
sure to configure your software firewall to allow all
traffic from the hardware, if this is complicated for you,
just uninstall the software firewall, install the hardware
one and reinstall the software one, it should then see the
device and work properly.

I have heard that recent security updates from MS can
cause a software firewall to quit, specifically Norton.
also Norton firewall has been known to cause problems with
the operating system, my suggestion is junk norton
and go with a free one zone alarm..
