Norton Install Problem

B

Banana

I recently installed Norton Antivus 2004 (NAV). It worked fine for a few
days until I started getting a message that the automatic update was
corrupted. The message told me to reinstall the automatic update.

When I put in the istall disk for the reinstall it told me I had to
uninstall the previous install. This was done and then I was asked to
restart in order to finish.

After restart, the reinstall did not automatically start again. So, I
manually click on the setup.exe. I got a message saying. "Setup has
detected that Live Update is running. Please stop live update and relaunch
setup"

My problem is that I can not find anywhere that live up date would be
running. I do not even see a norton folder anymore in explorer after the
uninstall.

I am basically stuck now as I can not move forward. What should I do. I
appreciate any advice.

Your first mistake was in buying Norton.

There are way too many postings in these newsgroups for me to have any faith
in Norton.

If you can get it off - leave it off.

You should go to the Symantec site and then download and install the most
up to date version of LUSETUP.EXE. You should have no problems with Live
update after that

Had to respond after your comments and that of "goddogx". Your comments
were your opinions and we all have one...you know.... :)

I hope Randy tries the suggestion from ~BitzChick~...

of course it's my !opinion! based on 8 full hours of dealing with symantec
obdurance! i'm not willing to play with obviously consumer-unfriendly
software anymore.

Really? 'pears you're still using Windows, Internet Exploder, and
Lookout Express...or do you consider them "consumer-friendly"? Sorry
about your bad experience with Norton, but there isn't a single software
package out there that hasn't been an 8-hour PITA for someone. Just
suck it up, fix it or replace it, and get on with it. But when someone
asks for help, please try to do so in a meaningful way...

Randy,

Did you get any sort of error message? If so, could you post it? If
not you might try uninstalling and reinstalling - here's Symantec's
guide for removal of 2004:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ssional Edition&src=csm&pcode=nav&svy=&csm=no

Sorry about the length of that URL, but it's what it is... :(

Post back if you have any more ?'s

Also, you might try posting your problems in
"symantec.customerservice.general", also.. Lots more talented help
there....
