I am having problems running Scheduled Independent Backups using Norton Ghost
Ver 10.00. I have contacted a Symantec Support Technician who suggested that
i resolve the following errors in Windows XP Prof:

Can Anyone help ?

His email as follows

From the Belarc information, I understand that you have installed
"Microsoft® Visual Studio .NET Version 7.00.9466 " and there are no other
instances of .Net framework files in the Belarc. Kindly refer to the Belarc
information. Also, there are two hot fixes for .Net framework. "S867460" &
"M886903". Kindly note that, Ghost uses .Net framework for interacting with
Windows and your system. This is very critical product for all events of
Ghost including Scheduled backup. I suggest that you install the latest
patches or Service Pack for .Net Framework.

Windows XP SP2 is installed in your system. But, certain hotfixes are not
installed. If you notice at the Belarc Information, Windows XP SP3 patches
are listed. These are the causes, for which, I suggested to reinstallation of
Windows XP SP2 and .Net framework files.

Now, with System Log files. I have found the following warning in the system
log file. These could be a warning or Error, but could have an impact on the
data and the applications installed in your system.

"The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may
occur."

"V2IMount Warning (2) 57 N/A ACER-57DBDDB911 The description for Event ID (
57 ) in Source ( V2IMount ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have
the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages
from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to
retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following
information is part of the event: \Device\PQIVo. "

"The process msiexec.exe has initiated the restart of ACER-57DBDDB911 for
the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
Minor Reason: 0x2
Shutdown Type: reboot
Comment: The Windows Installer initiated a system restart to complete or
continue the configuration of 'Norton Ghost 10.0'."

"The time service has detected that the system time needs to be changed by
+18403210 seconds. The time service will not change the system time by more
than +54000 seconds. Verify that your time and time zone are correct, and
that the time source time.windows.com "

"Smart Card Reader 'O2Micro PCMCIA Reader 0' rejected IOCTL POWER: The smart
card is not responding to a reset.

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( O2SCBUS ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event: , IOCTL POWER failed
with status 0xc0000014."

"The smart card is not responding to a reset."

From the application log, please find the following information:

"Updates to the IIS metabase were aborted because IIS is either not
installed or is disabled on this machine. To configure ASP.NET to run in IIS,
please install or enable IIS and re-register ASP.NET using aspnet_regiis.exe
/i."

I suggest run Windows update to get all the updates for your system.
Then let us know if you are still having any problems when
installing/running Nortons. We can only help you with windows updates
on this NG.

Thanks for the reply. I have run Windows Update. The Updater is set on
Automatic Updates and there are no outstanding updtaes.

It seems that Ghost is dependent on the proper installation and patch
updates of .Net Framework. I have installed the .net Framework Ver 2.00.
Maybe Ghost is not compatible with this latest version.

Can you suggest a course of action ?

Thanks

If you only have V2 installed, you may need to go back to Win Update
and install/reinstall V1.1 and the V1.1 update as well.

I uninstalled V1.1 and the 1.1 update after installing V2 and some
things stopped working, so I had to reinstall them.

Re Ghost, I only use Ghost 2003 - I don't trust any later version, and
I don't think it needs .Net at all, as it runs from DOS.
