NORTON GHOST AND NERO BURNING ROM

Hi, I am trying to upgrade to Vista RC1 and keep being prompted to uninstall
Norton Ghost and Nero Burning ROM. The problem is that neither program is
installed. I have removed the keys for Norton from my registry but still get
the same promt at the Vista install.

I really dont want to do a clean install as I have an apache server set up
on this machine and cannot face the reconfig burden.

Any ideas?

I got the same thing for Nero 7. I uninstalled from control panel but
after the uninstall it was still listed in Add/remove.
But if I tried to run it - " it wasn't really there". I poped it the
Nero CD, went to Start-prgs-Nero- productsetup - modify and uninstalled
all but Burning Rom ( to have it make that change in the registry).
Then I went to Start-prgs-Nero- productsetup - "remove all prgs" and
rebooted. THAT worked for me. After the reboot it was no longer listed
in control panel add/remove. So I think the correct way is to use NERO
to do the uninstall not Vista. Perhaps same issue with Norton ??

Check Services in MSCONFIG and see if you have any Ghost service, Also you
might check the registry for any PQ items. If this is 9 or later it was a
PowerQuest product and has many pq.... items. Also, there is a reasonably
complete manual removal procedure in the KB on the Norton or Symantec site,
that has the registry entries you have to get deleted. Good luck. As to
Nero, I don't know, but a reinstall and uninstall often times helps.

You should have learned by now to check these things out BEFORE
installing a new OS.

Run the Vista Advisor BEFORE beginning the installation, and remove
those products while STILL in XP.

In nero, you must rename msa.dll to msa.dl or delete it. And Nero 6 will
run.

You should check error report, before posting here, when avoilable.

I would suggest trying the Windows uninstaller cleanup utility and CCleaner
(free). You probably still have some registry entries for these hanging
around. Sorry, I do not have urls handy but Google?. CCleaner has received
excellant reviews in PCMagazine I believe.

You actually got Nero6 to run? It seems to install OK (not ImageDrive) but
it wouldn't run with me.
