Norton Antivirus and WinXP

I have this exact problem (see below) - There is a copy of one of the replies
given below. I want to try this but I don't know what MSI installer is, let
alone how to go about 'running the cleaner'. A lot of MSI files are in my
recycle bin as i tried to clean up my computer by deleting temp files etc.
Do these need to be restored?

I'd appreciate any help. Many thanks,
Amanda
After I start my computer the windows installer comes up, then I get a
message
'Norton Antivirus 2006 does not support the repair feature. Please
uninstall and reinstall again.'
What am I supposed to uninstall? The antivirus or the windows installer?
And why all of a sudden do I get these messages???

Why is the windows installer popping up in first place??

Thank you for your help.

Problem is with the Windows MSI installer database. Head over to Office
newsgroups and yu should be able to locate the installer cleaner. Then
un-install NAV and run the cleaner to remove any left-over NAV install
entry. Then, you can successfully install NAV with all its features.

Did you by any chance re-arrange the icons in the Start Menu?

This is an article for 2005 but should give you the general drift.

Hi, thanks for replying. I haven't changed the startup menu, and have tried
everything in that article, i.e ran Automated Asst., Scan from Symantec
Website, I have checked for the necessary folders and uninstalled and
reinstalled about 6times now. I emailed Symantec telling them this and they
still referred me back to that article but for 2006.
Someone suggested cleaning the Windows MSI Installer but I don't know how to
do this.
